CAREER LESSON LEARNED #3

I had my share of learning these career lessons. It took me a while to get back writing...
Hope this will be worth the wait.

My next career lesson says: IT'S NOT ALL YOU
Oh really?! In the corporate world, climbing that ladder, how it can't be about me?

If it's a career that's worthwhile, it's about adding value to what you do,  it is more importantly adding value to the lives you work with.

Adding to that, it is  about helping our customers.
After all we have our jobs because these customers need our services or products.

Our careers is not just about doing our task list, fulfilling our job responsibilities.
It is also abut relationship.
The people we give service & the people we work with, be it our superiors or subordinates, we use our jobs, even our special talents in the service of others.

This way we also improve our own lives.
This gives our day to day work a whole lot more meaningful.

That's why sometimes it's also but fitting to remind ourselves that IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU!

CAREER LESSONS LEARNED #2

Do you think it should be developing weakness or focusing on strength?

There’s nothing wrong in developing our so-called weakness but what we should be thinking of our strengths.

Remember what you think eventually becomes your action and our actions determine our destiny.

If you always think that you’re dull, stupid, bad at this, poor at that, etc. then indeed you become what you think you are.

Therefore let us stop talking about it…

But wouldn’t it be amazing to focus on our strength and we make it crazily… foolishy… insanely great?

When we combine our passion with our strength it would definitely be an explosion of greatness!

Find your ‘craziness’, what you do best, what you love to do and apply your strengths in doing it.

Our so-called weaknesses are there to keep up humble but it should NOT hamper us in achieving our greatness with our passion & strengths.

Remember you are NOT average.

Focus on your STRENGTH!

CAREER LESSONS LEARNED #1

You are currently at a cross road of you career.
You thought, I did everything that was 'supposed' to be done but I am not getting anywhere.
I am STUCK!

First question, DO YOU HAVE A PLAN?
Have you decided that you wanted to get somewhere & have it planned in detail?
What are your career choices?
Is it because you hope it will lead to something else you decided to suck it up?
Or is it because you believe that it is inherently valuable irregardless of...

The second choice is obviously the decisions made by successful people.
These fundamental reasons we choose does not only lead us to get somewhere but most importantly this choice prepares us for everything that is yet to come.
Thus coined as the fundamental choice.
The choice that will not only lead us where we wanted to go but the choice that will also keep us going to that destination.

May you choose to do things at work not just to get things done or please your boss but consciously choose to do what will also develop you as a person & those that make sense to life.

Remember there's more to life than your career!

KEEP AND EXCEL IN YOUR JOB

Are you tired of your job but can't get out of the corporate arena just yet?

Here are some suggestions that might work for your advantage. While you are where you are, make the most out of it.

DON'T JUST PRESENT THE PROBLEM BUT OFFER A SOLUTION AS WELL.

The company we work for, are not some helpdesk who would give all the solutions encountered in the workplace. They are looking for employees to help solve problems. Better yet go beyond the list of responsibilities or to do's set for you to do. In the midst of economic challenge, they are on the look out for those who offers to bring down the operating cost but still deliver quality product or service. But how do I show myself? Be identified with an issue that will allow you to deliver the solution that will make you shine. Remember choose the one you are an expert on and will make you shine the most. Always remember that no one gets hurt or you don't step on someone's way in doing this.

LIST DOWN YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS

It is always best to support your case with data, so don't just tell your boss, show them with all the list of accomplishments. Make them remember what you did. Don't assume they know everything you does.
Data will speak for itself, but of course remember to present your list of achievements or accomplishments with confidence.

STRETCH YOUR CAPACITY
This is another way to show not only what you have but what else can you do.  Accept additional responsibility and show that you are capable to do more. This will pave the way for a promotion.

NETWORKING

Make yourself visible and known. Those who envy you may persive it as rubbing elbows or worse kissing asses. Let them think what they want, just as long you don't step on someone's shoes and get them hurt, create your own edge, make yourself known and your accomplishments. Always walk the talk. Introduce yourself and make a good impression.

WORK WITH MINIMUM SUPERVISION

We are responsible individuals & should not be treated as kids. If your manager sees that you can be trusted, then the ball keeps rolling. It paves the way for greater opportunities to do more and get somewhere.
Employees who can work with minimum supervision are considered as assets. Be responsible and take action

Always create a leverage for yourself. If you don't get what you want just yet, talk it out with a friend but always discuss it with your manager. This way you know where you are and you can make a sound decision.
